Modeling the Modal Shift towards a More Sustainable Transport by Stated Preference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

The need to gain a comprehensive understanding of road travelers’ choice mode and their perceptions using sustainable urban mobility modes have evolved shape the form future transport planning policymaking. To combat concern growing traffic congestion in Riyadh City, government Saudi Arabia designed introduced public project named “Riyadh Metro”. This study explores potential commuters’ perception towards Metro services factors that limit propensity use understand tradeoffs individuals make when they are faced with combination characteristics (e.g., travel time, price, walking time). stated preferences experiment was conducted on sample from neighborhood by structured interviews. A discrete model based binary logistic regression has been developed. coefficient attribute: fuel cost, fare, time found be statistically significant different effect choice. elasticity showed an increase price 10% would metro ridership 5.3% reduce car dependency. Decreasing 5 min station will 22%. Furthermore, revealed implementing 1 SAR/hour parking charge decrease dependency 14%. Increase fare 6.9%. socioeconomic shows marginal decision passengers.
